Vadim Stepanov was born in 1969 in Susuman City on Kolyma in the northern empire of prison camps and gold mines. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Moscow. He left home at the age of 16 and became a vagrant, following the tendency of his generation in rejecting the Soviet life style. In the end of 80’s, he became an apprentice at the famous art studio “Furmannoy By- Street” with the renowned Russian painter, Leonid Purygin, whom he considers his teacher. From that year on, he started to paint and exhibit, simultaneously.
In the beginning of 90’th Stepanov moved to Israel, where he works now. During the last decades his paintings were purchased by numerous private collectors in Israel and all over the world. Stepanov has had solo exhibitions in galleries in Israel and abroad, and also participated in group exhibitions. Dozens of his works are part of the prestigious Dubi Schiff collection for Israeli modern art.
